tal-is-mun, n., an object marked with signs and charged with energy intended to bring benefit to the bearer.

To some degree, all works of original art are talismans. For the paintings in this show I have been very conscious about the process of infusing the work with energy. It is why I use bold, dramatic compositions. It is the reason I paint the wildlife that have had a powerfully positive relationship with me. And it is what compels me to integrate so many different elements into the work; taking care to balance each against the other. Once that balance is achieved the painting comes alive and becomes a talisman.
